Since denotations and connotations can be interpreted by all ages, these play important roles in promoting and consuming. The Kindergarteners and preschool children experiments interest me. I suppose that kindergarteners and preschool are not capable of deciphering connotation. However, Kids know which group the box belongs to by attending to the connotations of the box, while preschool children are able to identify the difference between real scare bear and fake adorable teddy bear. If kindergarteners and preschool children are able to that, business have great chance catch kids mind to attract them buy the product. For instance, add favored carton into the various food package, convert food container into a popular carton figure, and so on.
What confused me in the article is that why “The black male, even with hair picked and adorned with a necktie, will never outrun the connotation of images with which he has been identified”. Is that means the history and political issue effect way of deciphering the connotation of people’s characteristic.

Big idea is what blueprint plays in the construction field. Before planning the details of what we should build, a sophisticated blueprint is necessary. All the later process should follow the instruction of blueprint. The same as what Jennifer did for the Garden. Converting “the five dying cypress trees, a cheap plaster statue….two pieces of garden furniture” (p5) into an impressive garden, Jennifer produces “In the Garden” in the view of “awful little garden”. The landscape, swimming pool and people are colored with black and white, which make atmosphere repression. However, he also wants to break and bend the rules by painting 200 variation of the same garden.
I am puzzled about the differences between the theme, big idea and subject. As far as I concern the subject is what drawer apply to convey the idea, while the theme is the main idear of the painting. However, when the theme and big idea are the same? How to utilize both to make a painting?
