After I read through the article “Kidd, Hickey and
Weschler”, I regarded it as an article, breaking away from the normal ideology
of forming a picture. Before we invade our territory, we should aware that
normal and familiar ways to work on posters is to from Left to Right, Top to
Bottom. However, it is not unchanging. Different ways are capable of showing
various ideas, if the writer has already made a blueprint in the mind.
I am curious and little confused about that “Left to
Right, Top to Bottom, Big and Small; on a two-dimensional plane, all of these
tools rely on relative truth. Now we come to In Front Of and In back of, which
for us are big, fat lies” (p6). Why fist three tools are relied on truth while
last on is lies. Is this mean that the last tool will make an illusion that
people regard something, in front of screen, as a bigger one than the other,
which is in the back of the screen? In fact, the back one is the bigger one.
The
article “The Heresy of Zone Defense”, at beginning of the article, visualizes a
popular 1980 NBA Finals. Erving’s amazing performance attracts millions of
basketball fans. While the author applies basketball as an introduction for his
further discussion about civilizing rules. I am fond of what Jackson Pollock
said in a magazine that “It is okay to drip paint”. Jackson breaks the conventional
idea about painting. He combines the heart and mind with paining. Painting is
not just a picture, but it is an abstract way directly to express drawer’s
emotion.
Contrary
to basketball which has been ruled and changed in the past sixty years, while,
art does not submit to the rule. From reading, collage administration nearly
destroyed the initial idea and spirit of basketball. As result, I am curious
about art history. Is art still a freedom platform for drawers to express their
ideas and to create everything? Is there any forbidden law issued to confine
people’s mind?
The article “why is this man
smiling” talks about that how digital animators are becoming more and more
alive. At begin, I am interested in light various behaviors when it hits
different things’ surface and bounces off, like milk, marble and plastic. After
the author talks about the light hitting the face, the previous description
helps me a lot. The exact opposite way
between performing a human show and animation attract me a lot. Human show is
inside out, while, the animation is outside in.
A tiny different facial expression sends out much different message. Animation maker, as result, should pay attention to daily
people’s expression anytime and anywhere. In that case, a vivid animation is
able to come out. Also thanks to the technology, a mouse and a keypad, makers
used to perform lots of animation expression.
I question about “we fail when the
audience notices anything”, Is this mean that animation maker should make all
the expression alive without any traces?
